Bookish Playlist: South of Sunshine by Dana Elmendorf

Welcome to my very first Bookish Playlist post! I’ve wanted to do this for a while but I really wasn’t sure which book to chose. In the end, I picked South of Sunshine, an LGBTQIA+ themed novel I read back in February and absolutely adored. You can read my full review here!

I wanted to make this playlist to make a simple statement – you don’t have to be gay to support gay rights. So let’s start by listing the songs!

  1. Same Love // Macklemore ft. Ed Sheeran (Live, iHeart Radio 2014)
  2. Brave // Sara Bareilles
  3. WILD // Troye Sivan
  4. Girls Like Girls // Hayley Kiyoko
  5. I Kissed a Girl // Katy Perry
  6. Fearless Love // Melissa Etheridge
  7. FOOLS // Troye Sivan
  8. Fuck you // Lily Allen
  9. I’m Coming Out // Diana Ross
  10. Halsey // New Americana
  11. TALK ME DOWN // Troye Sivan
  12. She Likes Girls // Metro Station
  13. We R Who We R // Ke$ha
  14. Make It Stop // Rise Against
  15. Really Don’t Care // Demi Lovato ft Cher Lloyd

Why did I pick some of these songs…and why are they so close to my heart?

I listen Same Love by Macklemore probably at least weekly. It’s a deep, tender song that means a lot to me.

The BLUE NEIGHBORHOOD series by Troye Sivan. I have watched these 3 videos many times and I don’t think I’ve ever stayed completely dry-eyed, and for good reason. I chose to include all of these because of the physical and mental abuse shown from parents in the videos.

And lastly, Make It Stop by Rise Against. I actually hadn’t heard this song or watched the video before tonight while searching around for some of these songs, but I nearly ended up in tears watching it, such a moving video and one I couldn’t publish this playlist without.

Did you like this post, and would you like to see more Bookish Playlists in the future?
