Let’s Discuss! Can You Have Too Many Books?

The simple answer? No, of course not!

But the real answer is never that simple. And although my true answer really is no, I think there’s a lot more to it than that.

So when is having a lot of books a bad thing?

1.When you have way too many books on that physical TBR

I always draw a line here. I just can’t handle looking at my shelf and thinking “oh no I’ve only read half of those”! After around 10-20 physical TBR books, I just have to stop buying until I’ve read a few more!

2. When you don’t actually like any you own

I just can’t own books I rated 3 or below stars. In the end they just annoy me when I look at them!

3. When you can’t fit beautiful new releases on that shelf

I always want to buy new releases I see all over the internet, and if they won’t fit on my shelf then it really annoys me.

What can you do to clear some space on that shelf?

1.Do a book swap!

Your okay-will-never-read-again book could be someone’s new favourite. And you could find a great book out of it, too!

2. Donate them

There are plenty of charity/second-hand book shops around, so you can always donate those okay books to make room for more! I tend to do this most.

3. Buy a bigger bookshelf!

Of course, this is the one that makes most sense. So head over to Ikea and keep all of the books…and don’t feel guilty about adding to the pile – because no one wants a bookshelf with empty sections!

What do you think? Is it possible to own too many books?

  1. I agree totally, firstly, no of course you can’t have too many! But secondly, there are definitely times when you can, I’ve moved from the UK to Denmark to USA since 2014…and books are big, and bulky, and take up a lot of space… Mine are now half in one place and half in another, I miss them so much… Oh dear!
