Random: 5 Books I Didn’t Like In 2016

Everyone discusses the books they loved in 2016 – and there’s nothing wrong with that! But today I’m going to be doing the opposite and talking about the books I didn’t enjoy last year. Let’s start with my 5th least favourite, ending with my absolute worst of 2016.

I didn’t dislike this book – it’s more that it just wasn’t for me. I liked the concept and didn’t mind the characters too much…but it was definitely suited more towards adults than my age!

This book may partly have been the same as 5, maybe it just didn’t suit me. But I definitely had a lot more annoyances with this one! The main reason was the characters…I just didn’t like them at all. Bartholomew, the main character of a book aimed at adults…acted like a child. His writing was simple, and it didn’t have enough depth for me in the plot either.

Again, An Abundance of Katherines was a lot more niggles. I think with each book on this list, I have more annoyances (which makes sense as they get worse for my taste). This time, I hated the characters. I hated the plotline. I hated the lack of roadtrip. It wasn’t all bad, but it wasn’t enjoyable for me at all.

Another book with main characters and a plot I didn’t like. For this, Dexter made me dislike the book a lot more than I probably would have if he was more likable!

But the top one has got to be Madison K. I was offered sweets, bows, accessories and free signed copies of this whole trilogy in exchange for an honest review. And boy, I was honest. These books were downright awful, and I’m not about to lie. They were unedited, full of awful mistakes and sentences as long as paragraphs. It didn’t make sense, followed an unbelievable and unrelatable plot with characters the same way. They were clearly only released for the author to get more money.

I wouldn’t recommend these books at all…to hardly anyone. Unless you’re around 10, and love beauty. And blogging. And don’t mind three books of horrid writing.

  1. Hi! I’m stalking you now! 😀
I’ve honestly never heard of most of these, but An Abundance of Katherines was so boring. I don’t even remember most of what happened in it, just that the main guy got dumped or something (not duped like I was about to type…) and he went off on some road trip with his friend, but then they ran into some girl and suddenly they had to spend the rest of the book with her? Oh, and there was some dumb jock-type guy in there, too. Yaaaaay. -_-
Also, I saw the featured image for this post and thought The Selection was going to be in here. I probably should’ve taken a look at your Twitter first. 😆

    1. Hi! 🙂 ugh, An Abundance of Katherine’s was definitely the worst YA book of my reading year >.< Madison K was preteen and the others were adult.
Haha sorry! I should put related pictures 😛

      1. Oh, yay, someone else who reads 9-12 stuff despite not being 9-12! 😀 Also, do you have any recommendations for adult fiction? I’m trying to get out of all the garbage that is YA, but all the choices at my bookstore are honestly a little overwhelming. 😛
Don’t worry about it, it’s fine! Although I feel like I should warn you… The Selection isn’t exactly the greatest book series of all time. And by that I mean that if you’re not a fan of generic YA dystopia stuff, you probably won’t like it… Just a little warning. :/

      2. Haha no definitely not! I read a lot of Cathy Cassidy still. I unfortunately don’t have any suggestions, sorry 😦 I don’t read enough adult!
Okay thank you! I’m not expecting *too* much from it, but I have heard some mixed reviews.

      3. I’ve never heard of her! Is that a British author/series? 😛 Although we seem to get a lot of British stuff here for 9-12. It sort of dies down a bit as you get into YA stuff, though.
Oh, that’s fine! I’d tell you the names of some adult books I read and liked, but I can’t remember them exactly. :/ *looks up author name which I do remember* Oh, there was The Extraordinary Journey of the Fakir Who Got Trapped in an Ikea Wardrobe. Have you read that? 😛
I hope it’s better than your expectations, then! 🙂

      4. She is! Cathy Cassidy writes preteen/childrens, so she definitely aided my transition to YA,
Haha don’t worry! I like the sound of Trapped in an Ikea Wardrobe 😛 I haven’t read either, but now I’m intrigued 😉
        Me too!

      5. Makes sense, considering there was an author who was sort of like that for me. I looked Cathy Cassidy up, though, and I’m actually pretty surprised I’d never heard of her? Like I said, there’re a lot of British authors in my bookstore’s 9-12 section…
You should definitely check it out, then! Apparently it might also be getting a movie this year, which I found out when I searched up the author’s name. Huh. 😛
