Book Tag: 20 Questions Pt. 1

Hey, yet another book tag I wasn’t tagged for! But it looked so intriguing I couldn’t help but take it for myself. I found this on Emma’s blog, which is one of my favourite blogs in the world and go check it out! Anyway, one of the things I love to do is share more about the person behind this blog – me. So today I’m going to be writing about 20 Bookish Questions You Never Asked. We have a lot to cover so I’m going to do this in two parts, and let’s start part one now!

1. How many books are too many in a series?

I honestly think this depends on the series, but as an all-rounder I’m going to say 4? And I only say that because four books feels so much more daunting that three!

2. How do you feel about cliffhangers?

I guess they’re good as long as they’re in a series and as long as I have the next book to read immediately.

3. Hardback or paperback?

Wow this one is always so hard and I could be indecisive about this for so long! I’d say hardbacks because they’re harder to damage and prettier (with under-dust-jacket details too!), but I do have a kind of thing against dust-jackets and sometimes prefer paperbacks.

So it depends on the design, but overall paperback for the cost/storage/ease of travel!

4. Favourite book?

Oh my, I find this question so hard because I swear my favourite book changes all the time but looking at my shelf right now I’m thinking I’ll Give You the Sun stands out the most?

5. Least favourite book?

Okay this one is so much easier. Thirteen Reasons Why. Click here for exactly thirteen reasons why I hate it and it MAKES ME WANT TO SHOUT AND RANT EW.

6. Love triangles, yes or no?

It depends on whether they’re done well, but I guess I’m not against them?

7. The most recent book you DNF’d?

I usually DNF books thinking I’ll pick them up later. The most recent book was The Hate U Give, but only because I bought a load of books while I was one chapter in and wanted to swap really badly.

8. A book you’re currently reading?

I’m currently reading Save the Date by Morgan Matson! I’m really enjoying it even through the cliche feel.

9. Last book you recommended to someone?

I recommended Leah on the Offbeat to my lovely friend Courtney the other day after I finished it! You can see why in my review, which will be up on Tuesday.

10. Oldest book you’ve read?

I think, as far as I can remember, that it’s Jane Eyre, which also happens to be one of my absolute favourite books!

I’m really excited to carry on with this post! Check out my blog next Friday to find out the answers to the final 10 questions.

Book Tag: The Stranger Things Tag

I wasn’t tagged to do this but you no what? I am a firm believer that if you want to do a tag, do the damn tag. So I wasn’t actually asked to do this, but I’m going to do it anyway because I love books and I adore Stranger Things!

Before I start, I found this tag here on Life of a Literary Nerd and the original post is from Sarah Sunbeemz on YouTube.

Epic Intro
name a book that grabbed your attention from the first page.

Goodreads | Amazon

It was so hard to pinpoint a specific book (so many have got me from the first page!), but this one did jump out at me.

Dungeons & Dragons
name a fantasy world you would like to experience yourself.

Goodreads | Amazon

I know this might be the most predictable thing in the world but who doesn’t want to be in Hogwarts?

Squad Goals
name your favourite bookish group of friends.

Goodreads | Amazon

I love this gang and as I’ve recently read Crooked Kingdom I have such fresh memories of this beautiful group of people.

ABC’s and Christmas Lights
name your favourite mentally unhinged character.

Goodreads | Amazon

It took me a while to think of a character to fit this one but does AIDAN count? Not only is he definitely my favourite “villain”, but he’s also one of my favourite mentally unhinged characters.

The Upside Down
name a book that was the opposite of what you expected.

Goodreads | Amazon

When I read the synopsis for this book, I thought it would be cringey as hell. But I actually found it really enjoyable, and it was definitely a pleasant surprise!

Mad scientists
name the freakiest dystopian government you can think of.

Goodreads | Amazon

I really enjoyed this book, and it definitely matches the tagline.

name a scary bookish creature that you would not want to come through your walls.

Goodreads | Amazon

This book was the one I thought of as soon as I read the tagline. I’m still yet to watch the movie but I know I’ll be a mess when I do!

Cliffhanger ending
name a book that left you wanting more.

Goodreads | Amazon

I could read so much about these two! Imagine how many different magical adventures they could go on?

So that’s the Stranger Things book tag! I’m not going to tag anyone either, because if you like Stranger Things, you should go ahead and join in.

Book Tag: The Versatile Blogger Award

I was tagged by the Non-Alchoholic Student – thank you! I feel like such a bad blogger and reader right now for missing 2 days of blogging this week. Not only that, but it’s taking me soooo long to get through Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire! I have finally realised it’s because the font size in these books is half the size of the first 3, so I need to stop blaming myself.

The rules

  • If you are nominated, you’ve been awarded the Versatile Blogger Award
  • Thank the person who gave you this award
  • Include a link to their blog
  • Select 15 blogs/bloggers that you’ve recently discovered or follow regularly
  • Nominate those 15 bloggers for the Versatile Blogger Award
  • Finally, tell the person who nominated you 7 things about yourself

So it’s time for my 7 facts, and I’m going to try and talk about some things you might actually not know.

My facts

  1. I’ve owned blogs since I was 13, so for 5 years. I’ve had a number of blogs since then including gaming and book blogs, but this is definitely my longest running!
  2. I’ve been a Nintendo gamer until a couple of months ago, when I finally gave in and bought an xBox.
  3. I’m watching Friends for the first time ever at the age of 18, and absolutely loving it.
  4. I own around 240 books, but I’m currently on a book buying ban and haven’t bought any for around a month.
  5. I’m a media student, and I’m going to study photography at university in September!
  6. My favourite social media is Tumblr, when it comes to book themed posts! In general, I think it might be Pinterest.
  7. I can type 80 wpm and without looking at my screen/keyboard! I would definitely put this down to blogging.

I’ve decided to tag some of my lovely followers, but feel free to take part if you want to!

Book Tag: Blogger Recognition Award

It’s time for another book tag, and this post I’m taking part in the Blogger Recognition Award. It’s been almost 2 years since I last took part in this tag and I think it’s definitely time to do it again.

Thank you to the lovely Audrey for tagging me! You can see her post here.

1. Thank the blogger who nominated you and provide a link to their blog.
2. Write a post to show your award.
3. Give a brief story of how your blog started.
4. Give two pieces of advice to new bloggers.
5. Select 15 other bloggers you want to give this award to.
6. Comment on each blog and let them know you have nominated them and provide the link to the post you created.

How did I start my blog?

To put it simply, I’ve always been a reader, and I’ve been a blogger for 5 years now. I have ran many different gaming blogs over the years and it wasn’t until my old friend satrted a book blog when I decided to join in! We ran a blog together for a while before going our separate ways and I started The Books Are Everywhere. That was 2 1/2 years ago now and this blog has remained a large part of my life ever since!

2 pieces of advice for new bloggers

  1. Don’t make it a chore! I included a similar piece of advice last time I did this tag, but I think it still holds a lot of truth. Make sure you enjoy blogging. It has to be for you, or it’ll become a pain.
  2. Make sure you go into blogging being informed. It’s a big commitment of your precious time and energy. It’s awesome, and I would never dream of stopping, but it has it’s drawbacks too. Just make sure you’re fully aware of what you’re stepping into.

Also as Audrey wrote, make sure you have back up posts! I often write drafts for days I don’t have time to blog, and that’s completely normal for me now. I simply don’t have time to write a blog post every single day, because life is just too busy, and that’s okay!

I nominate:

Of course if anyone else would like to take part consider yourself tagged! Thanks for reading.

Book Tag: The Blogger Aesthetic Award

“Bloggers are (let’s just be honest here) the absolute best. There’s so much diversity and personality and creativity in this community—and what better way to celebrate those things than by spending the next twelve hours of our lives hunting down and collaging the images that best reflect our individual awesomeness?”

This awesome tag is created by Liam over at Hey Ashers! I found it on Beth’s lovely blog and honestly I’ve wanted to take part ever since. So instead of being nominated, I’ve nominated myself and decided to just go ahead and take part!

I have to admit I love scrolling through Pinterest and I’ve probably spent way too many hours on there. So it’s about time I share my pins with you guys to let you know a little more about me!

The Blogger Aesthetic Award

  • Collect any number of images that you feel represent you as a person—your personality, aspirations, favourite things, anything at all that makes you you.
  • Put your chosen images together into a collage of whatever size and shape you find pleasing.
  • Share your masterpiece with everyone, in all the places.
  • Maybe nominate other bloggers as a way to tell them, “Hey, you, I think you’re awesome, and we should celebrate that awesomeness.”
  • Share these rules (and maybe the below tips, if you’re feeling helpful).

My Aesthetic:

Plants are so aesthetic! I would have more if I didn’t forget to water them or drown them.

Gaming is something I’m loving more every day – I recently got an xbox and I’m really enjoying it so far.

Fashion is probably one of my most pinned things, and I can’t wait to buy more clothes when I start my new job!

Books are something I couldn’t miss. I own about 250 books and I know one day they will be in every room of my house (yes, probably even the kitchen (and the bathroom)).

Stardew Valley is one of the games I’ve just started playing, and I love it.

Home decor is something else I pin a lot about! When I was a kid, I really wanted to go into interior design and it’s still something I love. I’m also a big fan of mood lights and fairy lights, which is why they appear twice above 🙂

Tea – I couldn’t live without it! I drink a lot of tea and green/herbal teas, so I couldn’t go without including it.

Baking is a hobby I don’t go a week without doing. I spend a lot of my time baking, and I love experimenting with new bakes.

Photography is what I want to study at university and one of my favourite things to do! I also have a fascination with old cameras, and hopefully I’ll have more one day.

I’m tagging:

And of course anyone else who wants to do this tag! Have you found out something new about me?

Book Tag: My Life in Books

Hello readers! I love book tags so much but I haven’t done one for so long. I saw this tag back in September and I love the look of it. I found it over on Emma’s beautiful blog, and you can see her post here!

Find a book for each of your initials

Beautiful Broken Things – Sara Barnard
Lola and the Boy Next Door – Stephanie Perkins
Jane Eyre – Charlotte Bronte

Count your age along your bookshelf. What is it?

The 18th book on (one of) my shelves is also one of my favourite reads of 2017! And that book is Alex, Approximately by Jenn Bennett.

Pick a book set in your country/city

Goodreads | Amazon

This might not be my favourite book but it is set very near where I live and I found it so interesting because of that!

Include a book that represents a destination you’d love to travel to

Goodreads | Amazon

One of my dreams is to road trip around America, just like Emma mentioned in her post! Amy & Roger is still one of my favourite contemporaries of all time and I just adore the idea of this book and I wish I could live the story.

Pick a book that is your favourite colour

Goodreads | Amazon

I love gradients and these soft hues of purples are just so pretty. I wouldn’t say I have a favourite colour, but I do adore this gradient.

Choose a book you have fond memories of

Goodreads | Amazon

I grew up reading Jacqueline Wilson and graduating to Cathy Cassidy before I moved to YA. I absolutely adored this book and it was one of the first preteen books I read!

Include a book you had difficulty reading

Goodreads | Amazon

Jane Eyre is one of my favourite books of all time, but classics are always a challenge to read.

Find a book on your TBR that you will feel like the biggest accomplishment when you finish it

Goodreads | Amazon

I know, I’m such a bad bookworm as I haven’t yet read Harry Potter! I’ve been wanting to read it for years though, and I know I’ll feel so happy when I finally finish the series.

As I did this tag without being actually tagged, you should too! I won’t tag anyone this time as I think anyone who wants to write this one should go ahead 🙂

Book Tag: The Liebster Award

My lovely friend Ellie from Blogging for Dopamine tagged me for The Liebster Award a while ago – and I’m finally getting around to it! You should definitely head over to her blog and give it a look.

The rules:

  • Thank the person who nominated you and link their blog.
  • Answer the 11 questions the person asked you.
  • Nominate 11 people (comment on their blog to let them know).
  • Ask the people you have nominated 11 questions.

The questions:

1. What is your favourite period in history (the one you find most interesting)?

I’m unfortunately not the biggest history fan, but I do find the 1800s interesting.

2. If you could be a fictional character for a day, who would you be and why?

Ahh that is so difficult! If only for a day, I would love to be either Charlie from Songs About A Girl or Scarlett from Caraval as I’d love to experience that magical world!

3. What is your favourite TV show at the moment?

I’m not watching anything at the moment apart from random food programs I love! But my favourite series is definitely Arrested Development.

4. What is the best book you’ve read so far in 2017? (Or at least one of the best, I know it can be hard to choose.)

Oh my Gosh, this is so hard! Okay, I can choose 3, in no particular order…
Alex Approximately by Jenn Bennett
Songs About A Girl by Chris Russell
The Loneliest Girl in the Universe by Lauren James

5. Do you have a favourite toy, from childhood or now? (Yes, I still buy toys for myself.)

Ahh this is a hard question. I don’t really have toys as such, but I do have a fluffy alpaca, and some little keyrings I love.

6. Who are some of your favourite villains?

I have to agree with Ellie and say my favourite villain has to be AIDEN from Illuminae! He’s such a unqiue villain.

7. Which superpower would you choose to have, if you could?

I don’t know ahh! I would love to be able to fly, be invisible or also as Ellie said, reverse time! Or maybe read minds? That would be so damn useful right now.

8. What is your favourite snack?

For healthy snacks, I love fruit like mango and strawberries! Unhealthy me craves cakes, cookies and muffins. Preferably chocolate!

9. If you had to choose, would you rather become a vampire or a werewolf?

Definitely a vampire, but I would have to be ‘vegetarian’.

10. Pirates or ninjas?

I guess it would have to be ninjas!

11. Share a quote you really like!

Ahh, that’s so hard as I love so many quotes! In the bookish variety, I adore this one:

“We are capable of big lives. A big history. Why settle? Why choose the practical thing, the mundane thing? We are born to dream and make the things we dream about.”
Nicola Yoon, The Sun Is Also a Star

In other quotes, I love this and it has always struck a chord with me:

“In French, you don’t say ‘I miss you’. You say ‘tu me manques’ which means ‘you are missing from me’.”

I’m nominating:

Hannah / Sophie / Emma / Celeste

And of course anyone else who would like to take part, consider yourself tagged!

My questions for you:

  1. What’s your favourite series?
  2. Name a book you’d like to live in.
  3. What’s your favourite bookish map?
  4. Do you prefer paperbacks or hardbacks?
  5. Where would you like to visit?
  6. What’s your favourite weather to read in?
  7. Talk about a hobby other than reading.
  8. What’s your favourite type of cake?
  9. Which spines always stand out on a shelf for you?
  10. Name a book you should read without reading the synopsis?
  11. Which books did you adore before blogging?

I hope you like the mix of book related and personal questions! The favourite type of cake is definitely a question I ask a lot of people as I bake so much – it’s one of my favourite things to do 🙂
