June Wrap-Up and July TBR

Hi all! Another month has passed and now I have under a month to read as much as I can on my YALC TBR, wish me luck 🙂 Unfortunately I didn’t manage to read as much in June, I got in a few small slumps and I started a new job, but I did still read 6!

I really loved a lot of these, but my favourite has to be Girls of Paper and Fire and my least favourite was either Meet Cute or The Last Namsara (even though I still enjoyed both).

Books I Bought in June

Bought
The Love and Lies of Rukhsana Ali – Sabina Khan
Girls of Paper and Fire – Natasha Ngan
Meet Cute – Various authors
A Darker Shade of Magic – V.E. Shwab
The Last Namsara – Kristen Ciccarelli
Noughts and Crosses – Malorie Blackman
The Priory of the Orange Tree – Samantha Shannon
Do You Dream of Terra Two? – Temi Oh

Received
The Storm Crow – Kalyn Josephson
Tonight the Streets Are Ours – Leila Sales
Made You Up – Francesca Zappia
Three Dark Crowns – Kendare Blake
One Dark Throne – Kendare Blake
Two Dark Reigns – Kendare Blake

I was so lucky to receive a copy of The Storm Crow from Sourcebooks Fire (thank you!). All of the other ‘received’ were gifts from my lovely friend Chloe – thank you again Chloe. The many books on the ‘bought’ list were in preparation for YALC, as usual.

Books I Want to Read in July

Arctic Zoo – Robert Muchamore
A Darker Shade of Magic – V.E. Shwab
Do You Dream of Terra Two? – Temi Oh
Noughts and Crosses – Malorie Blackman

I just want to get through Arctic Zoo and then read as many books off my YALC TBR as possible to be honest! These are at the top of my list, although there are many more :p I need all the luck I can get!

Top 5 Books On My TBR the Longest

This Top 5 Wednesday series is inspired by the weekly meme on Goodreads which you can find here. I no longer follow the topics and instead use my own.

Hi all! Who else has an endless TBR? I went on a book ban for a few months over Christmas/New Year and yet I still have 67 physical books on my TBR. I’m blaming it all on YALC at the moment as I’ve been stocking up books for then and adding books I want to read before YALC to my TBR. I’m currently reading Girls of Paper and Fire before I’m able to meet Natasha Ngan at YALC, and I’m really enjoying it so far!

Today’s topic is books that have been on my TBR the longest. I definitely have a lot to choose from here!

When the lift cranks open, the only thing Thomas remembers is his first name. But he’s not alone – an army of boys welcomes him to the Glade, an encampment at the centre of a terrible maze. The Gladers have no idea why they’re there, or what’s happened to the world outside. All they know is that every morning when the walls slide back, they will risk everything to find out.

I really have no excuse for not reading this series yet. I may have only had the books myself for the past year or so, but my brother has had the set since the first movie came out!

Beatrice Prior is on the brink of a decision that will change her life. In a society divided into factions all are forced to choose where they belong. And the choice Tris makes shocks everyone, including herself.
Once decisions are made, the new members are forced to undergo extreme initiation tests with devastating consequences. As their experience transforms them, Tris must determine who her friends are – and if the man who both threatens and protects her is really on her side.
Because Tris has a deadly secret. And as growing conflict threatens to unravel their seemingly perfect society, this secret might save those Tris loves… or it might destroy her.

My boyfriend picked this series up almost 2 years ago so we could both read it. He’s read the first one but I haven’t managed to get to them yet even though we’ve watched all of the films!

Mara Dyer doesn’t think life can get any stranger than waking up in a hospital with no memory of how she got there.
It can.
She believes there must be more to the accident she can’t remember that killed her friends and left her mysteriously unharmed.
There is.
She doesn’t believe that after everything she’s been through, she can fall in love.
She’s wrong.

I picked this series up second hand years ago (I can’t even remember how many years ago it would have been), yet I still haven’t picked them up! I guess it’s because I used to find it daunting to read series, but now I pick them up a lot more.

A sharpshooter. A dreamer. A damn good liar.
Mortals rule the desert nation of Miraji, but mythical beasts still roam the wild and remote areas, and rumor has it that somewhere, djinn still perform their magic. For humans, it s an unforgiving place, especially if you re poor, orphaned, or female.
Amani Al Hiza is all three. She s a gifted gunslinger with perfect aim, but she can t shoot her way out of Dustwalk, the back-country town where she s destined to wind up wed or dead. Then she meets Jin, a rakish foreigner, in a shooting contest, and sees him as the perfect escape route. But though she s spent years dreaming of leaving Dustwalk, she never imagined she d gallop away on a mythical horse or that it would take a foreign fugitive to show her the heart of the desert she thought she knew.

I actually started this book when it came out and couldn’t get into it. Then when the second and third came out, I saw signed editions and couldn’t resist picking them up! Now I read a lot more fantasy, I’m sure I’ll enjoy them when I give them another go.

Noemi is a young and fearless soldier of Genesis, a colony planet of a dying Earth. But the citizens of Genesis are rising up – they know that Earth’s settlers will only destroy this planet the way they destroyed their own. And so a terrible war has begun.
When Noemi meets Abel, one of Earth’s robotic mech warriors, she realizes that Abel himself may provide the key to Genesis’ salvation. Abel is bound by his programming to obey her – even though her plan could result in his destruction. But Abel is no ordinary mech. He’s a unique prototype, one with greater intelligence, skill and strength than any other. More than that, he has begun to develop emotions, a personality and even dreams. Noemi begins to realise that if Abel is less than human, he is more than a machine. If she destroys him, is it murder? And can a cold-blooded murder be redeemed by the protection of a world?
Stranded together in space, they go on a whirlwind adventure through Earth’s various colony worlds, alongside the countless Vagabonds who have given up planetary life altogether and sail forever between the stars. Each step brings them closer – both to each other and to the terrible decision Noemi will have to make about her world’s fate, and Abel’s.

This book is probably the worst on this list, because it came out over 2 years ago and I have an ARC. God knows what got in the way 2 years ago, but I definitely have to read this soon!

T5W: Longest Books on My TBR

Top 5 Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Lainey. You get a new topic every Wednesday, and you list your Top 5 books related to that topic. If you’d like to take part, join the Goodreads group, and add your name to the list of bloggers & booktubers!

I love this months T5W topics and it’s made me so excited for November! Today we’re talking about something a little daunting…the longest books on my TBR. I have over 70 books on my physical TBR so I chose to go for that instead of my general TBR which has almost 300 books on.

The last book in Throne of Glass comes in at an impressive 980 pages! When I do get round to reading this series, it’s going to take me a while.

Celebrate the tenth anniversary of Twilight! This special double-feature book includes the classic novel, Twilight, and a bold and surprising reimagining, Life and Death, by Stephenie Meyer.
Packaged as an oversize, jacketed hardcover “flip book,” this edition features nearly 400 pages of new content as well as exquisite new back cover art. Readers will relish experiencing the deeply romantic and extraordinarily suspenseful love story of Bella and Edward through fresh eyes.

I’m not quite sure about the page count on this book as I think 780~ includes both Twilight and Life and Death. But it’s hopefully coming up soon on my TBR either way.

City of Heavenly Fire comes in at 733 pages – and I’ll be reading this series over my Christmas break from uni! I’m so excited.

Emma Carstairs is a warrior, a Shadowhunter, and the best in her generation. She lives for battle. Shoulder to shoulder with her parabatai, Julian Blackthorn, she patrols the streets of Los Angeles, where vampires party on the Sunset Strip, and faeries—the most powerful of supernatural creatures—teeter on the edge of open war with Shadowhunters. When the bodies of humans and faeries turn up murdered in the same way Emma’s parents were when she was a child, an uneasy alliance is formed. This is Emma’s chance for revenge—and Julian’s chance to get back his brother Mark, who is being held prisoner by the faerie Courts. All Emma, Mark, and Julian have to do is solve the murders within two weeks…and before the murderer targets them.
Their search takes Emma from sea caves full of sorcery to a dark lottery where death is dispensed. And each clue she unravels uncovers more secrets. What has Julian been hiding from her all these years? Why does Shadowhunter Law forbid parabatai to fall in love? Who really killed her parents—and can she bear to know the truth?

Lady Midnight is 720 pages long, but my edition is a very large paperback so I’m sure the word count is through the roof!

And not far behind at 699, my edition of Lord of Shadows. I bet my copies of Queen of Air and Darkness will be similar!

I’m not going to lie, I always find big books daunting and leave them to the back of my TBR which is so bad of me! But I definitely need to fight my fear and pick some of these up soon.

September Wrap-Up and October TBR

I really surprised myself this month by reading 8 books! I didn’t set a goal at all for the month as I knew I’d be starting uni and probably busy, but I’m really happy I’ve managed to read 8. That’s 3 more than I read in August!

My favourite read of this month was Blue Lily, Lily Blue, and my least favourite was More Happy Than Not.

Books I Bought in September

Gifted
My Neighbor Totoro – Tsugiko Kubo
Life of Pi – Yann Martel

Bought
City of Ashes – Cassandra Clare
Hero of the Fall – Alwyn Hamilton
Unravel Me – Tahereh Mafi
More Happy Than Not – Adam Silvera
Songs About a Boy – Chris Russell
Hollow City – Ransom Riggs
A Storm of Swords: Blood and Gold – George R.R. Martin

I’ll admit I may have gone a little overboard this month…but I’m actually okay about it because 3 of these were secondhand and the other 4 were on sale or in deals. Off the top of my head, all 7 of these books cost just over £25!

Books I Want to Read in October

History is All You Left Me – Adam Silvera
If I Stay – Gayle Forman
Where She Went – Gayle Forman

I’m meeting Adam Silvera at the end of the month so that’s the only book I definitely need to read! Otherwise, I’m just going to try and get through my physical TBR. Surprisingly, it is going down even with my bad book buying habits 😛

August Wrap-Up and September TBR

I read 5 books in August, which isn’t too bad even though it’s less than the 9 I read in July! I’m actually pretty happy because I managed to finish A Court of Thorns and Roses and they are big books.

I’m not going to pick a favourite and least favourite for this month because I’m happy to say these were all 5 star reviews!

Books I Bought in August

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them – J.K. Rowling
Harry Potter and the Cursed Child – J.K. Rowling
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (Ravenclaw Paperback) – J.K. Rowling

I’m very happy that I only bought these 3 books this month! That’s such a low amount for me and these were all on sale too.

Books I Want to Read in September

Blue Lily, Lily Blue – Maggie Stiefvater
The Raven King – Maggie Stiefvater

My only goal for September is to finish this series, which shouldn’t be too hard as I’m already almost halfway through Blue Lily, Lily Blue. I start my first year of university this month so I’m not going to push myself other than that and I’m going to mood read when I can!

June Wrap-Up and July TBR

Unbelievably, I read double the amount of books this month as I read in May! This is completely and utterly due to The Selection series, which is so easy and quick to read.

Although I loved the first three books in The Selection series, it wasn’t my favourite of the month. In fact, The Upside of Unrequited was my favourite read, and Obsidio was by far my least favourite!

Books I Bought in June

Catwoman: Soulstealer – Sarah J. Maas
A Storm of Swords – George R.R. Martin
A Feast for Crows – George R.R. Martin

I mean, I could have done better and not bought any books at all, but 3 books isn’t bad and two were second-hand!

Books I Want To Read in July

The Hate U Give – Angie Thomas
Call Me by Your Name – Andre Aciman

I wanted to read Call Me by Your Name in June, but I ended up reading The Selection instead! As college is fully over for me now, I’m excited to be able to have a lot more time on my hands and I hope I’ll be able to read even more in July.
