The Animal Crossing Book Tag

I’ve recently been tagged by Alex to do the Animal Crossing book tag! I’ve been playing Animal Crossing since 2005/2006 (I was 6 years old) so of course I’ve been loving New Horizons and I’ve wanted to do this tag for a while. I’ll also be doing a video version of it on Wednesday for you to look out for!

Past Villager – Who is a character you found when you were younger that still has a place in your heart?

Goodreads | Waterstones

Growing up, I adored Cathy Cassidy books. I think the one I loved just a little more than the others was Angel Cake, I read it so many times and the main character still has a place in my heart!

Blather’s Blatherings – Recommend a historical fiction book that you think everybody should read

39964740. sx318

Goodreads | Waterstones

I really don’t usually enjoy historical fiction, so reading this was a shock. But it is also fantasy, which is maybe why I enjoyed it!

Celeste’s Wish – What is a future book release you wish you could read now?

Goodreads | Waterstones

I’m so, so excited for this book! I adored The Language of Thorns and this sounds similar.

Timmy & Tommy – What is your favourite sibling relationship in a book?

Goodreads | Waterstones

I adore the Song-Covey sisters! They have such a cute relationship and I love them all for different reasons and their different personalities.

The Easter Bunny – A popular book character that you’re not a big fan of

Goodreads | Waterstones

It took me a while to decide this, but I’m going to have to say Peeta! I just didn’t click with him like everybody else seemed to.

Nook’s Loans – An author you’d give all your money to

I love Nina LaCour’s work and I would give all my money to her for new work!

The Sisters Able – What is your favourite fictional family (found or otherwise)?

Little Women (2019 film) - Wikipedia

I feel strange including this one as I haven’t read the book, but I saw the movie four times in cinema and I adore the relationship in this family!

It’s a C+  – What is a book trope you don’t like that keeps popping up?

Love triangles. Aside from a few rare circumstances, I really don’t like love triangles. I just find them frustrating and annoying!

The Wandering Camel – What is your favourite book set in a land far away from yours?

30964236. sy475

Goodreads | Waterstones

The first world that came to mind was definitely Caraval! The world in this series is just enchanting.

What Would Dodos Do?  – A fictional land you wish you could fly away to at any moment?

31076583. sy475

Goodreads | Waterstones

I adored this novella for the beautiful world and city that was finally at peace. I wish I could wander it’s streets!

Book Tag: 2020 Mid Year Freak Out

Hi everyone! I’m here today with a book tag, and it’s time to freak out about being over halfway through the year and realising you still have around the same number of books on your physical TBR as when the year started…

But…anyyyywayyy. Let’s not focus on that, and focus on answering the questions instead! I’ve taken these questions from Paper Fury’s blog, you can find their post here. I have a video version of this blog post coming next Wednesday, but I also wanted to write one up!

1.How much have you read?

I’ve read 37 out of 50 books so far this year! I’m 12 books ahead of schedule which makes me very happy as I definitely think I’ll easily complete my goal for 2020.

2. What have I read this year?

I’ve been reading a pretty even mix of fantasy and contemporary with some other genres in between!

3. Best books you read so far in 2020?

It’s difficult to pick between these three which have all been so good for different reasons!

4. Best sequel you’ve read so far this year?

Goodreads | Waterstones

I’m currently reading the penultimate book in this series alongside Alex, but I don’t think any of them will beat the sequel. I loved it!

5. New release you haven’t read yet but want to

50160619. sx318 sy475

Goodreads | Waterstones

I just received my copy of this book and I’m so excited to read it, hopefully soon.

6. Most anticipated release for the second half of the year?

42115981. sy475

Goodreads | Waterstones

There are so many books on my list I’m excited about, but my copy of Loveless arrived today and I cannot wait to read it!

7. Biggest disappointment of the year so far?

34510711. sy475

Goodreads | Waterstones

This was my first read of the year and unfortunately also the most disappointing as I’d been so excited to read it.

8. Biggest surprise?

50569469. sy475

Goodreads | Waterstones

I really didn’t think this book was for me and I ended up adoring it so much. It was so much more hard hitting than expected and I really felt the importance of the story.

9. New favourite author

34709995. sx318

Goodreads | Waterstones

I had this recommended to me by a customer in the bookshop where I work and I ended up loving it so much. I can’t wait to read her other book too!

10. Underrated gems you’ve discovered recently?

44585241. sy475

Goodreads | Waterstones

I read this book recently and it was SO GOOD. It definitely deserves more attention!

11. Rereads this year

43449920. sy475

Goodreads | Waterstones

The only re-read I’ve done this year is Heartstopper! I struggle to re-read when I have so many unread books on my TBR, but I still read the physical editions of Heartstopper as they are released even though I’ve read them all online.

12. Book that made you cry

I read this early in the year after reading Everything Leads To You and I adored it. But it definitely made me cry!

13. Book that made you happy

This also has to be Heartstopper! I adore these graphic novels and they always make me smile.

14. Most beautiful book you have bought so far this year (or received)

38580035. sy475

Goodreads | Waterstones

I’ve bought a few books that are drop dead gorgeous, but I think this one is the most beautiful. I saw the cover and had to buy it straight away!

15. Goals for the rest of the year

  • Read 50 books in 2020
  • Read the Grisha trilogy
  • Read more series
  • Have less on my physical TBR at the end of the year than I currently do! (84 books)

Book Tag: Reading Habits

Hi readers! It feels like aaaages since I last did a bookish tag. Grey from Use Your Words recently tagged me in the Reading Habits tag and I’m really excited to do it. So here we go!

Do you have a certain place for reading at home?

Black And White Book GIF - Find & Share on GIPHY

Definitely my bed! I’ll read anywhere, but I spend most of my time at home in or on my bed, so most of my reading gets done there too.

Bookmark or random piece of paper?

Always a bookmark. I have a Harry Potter magnetic bookmark that looks like the Magical Waterplants book from the movies! My boyfriend gave it to me for Christmas and it’s perfect because it never falls out from between the pages.

Can you just stop reading or do you have to stop after a chapter/certain amount of pages?

I usually wait until I’ve hit a new chapter, or at the very least a paragraph break.

Do you eat or drink while reading?

A Cup Of Tea GIF - Find & Share on GIPHY

I don’t really have ‘reading snacks’ as such, but I usually have a cup of tea!

Multitasking: music or TV while reading?

I usually prefer to read in complete silence, but I can sometimes read to video game or Studio Ghibli music! These rainy day Animal Crossing compilations are my go-to.

One book at a time or several at once?

25 Bookish Facts About Me – BOOKS, COFFEE, AND REPEAT

Usually one book at a time is the rule for me. But occasionally if I’m taking part in a buddy read where we only read a set amount of pages per day, I can read a book alongside if it’s a different genre.

Reading at home or everywhere?

Romania's Cluj-Napoca lets passengers ride the bus for free when ...

Everywhere and anywhere! When I’m not in lockdown, I tend to travel a lot and carry a book everywhere I go. I tend to read a lot on trains and in my breaks at work when I’m not at home.

Reading out loud or silently?

Silently! Unless I’m reading out a random passage to my boyfriend occasionally.

Do you read ahead or even skip pages?

Bloody Bookaholic: 10 Unequivocal Reasons to ALWAYS Carry a book ...

I can’t ever imagine skipping pages or to the end!

Breaking the spine or keeping it new?

I always try my hardest to keep my books nice and new whenever I can, unless it’s an impossibly large paperback which means I can’t always keep them pristine!

Do you write in your books?

No! I don’t mind if my textbooks for uni have writing in when I buy them cheaply second hand, but I don’t think I could bring myself to write in them myself.
